PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES

A picture perfect getaway

Knowledge sharing is a key part of the discipline of photography. Whether that's socially, or during group expeditions, it's important to accept that you're never really done with learning. In light of this, we encourage others to share in the splendour of Dingle as a canvas for the photography enthusiast. Myself and Noreen run inclusive photography courses that cater to those of all abilities - as long as you're enthusiastic about landscape photography, then this is an experience for you! Reviews

John Murphy, Dungarvan

Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend. One of the best I've had in quite a long time. My wish was one good shot and I think I have 3/4. Thank you both so much for making us all so welcome and I do hope I will be back some time. You have a little bit of heaven down there.

Tony Worobiec, Writer & Photographer

It was apparent that prior to attending none of us had truly appreciated what an enchanted area The Dingle Peninsula is; with John's intimate knowledge coupled with his kindly teaching techniques, every single client had a wonderful and profitable photographic experience.

A heartfelt “thank you” for the wonderful weekend I spent with you recently in Ballyferriter.

Every time I return to you to Ballyferriter I think beforehand “No. It just couldn’t be as good as the last time I was here” but the experience always surpasses the previous ones, even when the weather is not that kind.  Indeed when the weather is challenging we probably learn more because more challenges inevitably result in more learning.

Your workshop is unique - and you two make it so.  A couple totally devoted to each other, yet bouncing off each other occasionally to our delight, but always in unison when planning and giving what is best for each other and for your workshop participants.

You Noreen are a delightful hostess.  The breakfasts which you give us - you should patent them because they are incomparable to anything we receive anywhere else.  Now I always happen to get a cold on the Saturday night, but your medication always works wonders!

John you are a master tutor par excellence.  Your guidance and talks reflect a consummate knowledge of photography and love of Corca Dhuibhne.  Your kind, gentle, supportive direction and guidance is such a joy to experience and learn from.

A typical course itinerary

Friday evening: Guests typically arrive at the house in Ballyferriter from 5pm onwards. This will be out base for the weekend, and accommodation is provided for all guests. If the weather permits, there will be an evening shoot led by John. Following this, John will introduce everyone and outline the details of the following days activities. Locations and timings depend on tides and of course the weather - that's the one thing we can't organise for you!

Saturday morning you will be up before dawn to get the best of the light. This is when Dingle is at it's most beautiful - with the day breaking onto calm waters, and very few (if any) people in sight. Then, it's back to the house for a fully cooked Irish breakfast followed by another photo session at a different location. There is always a break of about three hours in the afternoon to allow people to get some dinner and have a rest. We'll often head into Dingle town for an early evening meal as a group, but of course you'll have the option to do your own thing. With no rest for the wicked, its back out again until sunset. Somewhere in the middle of all this, John will take some time to show some of his work.

Sunday brings another early start and morning shoot, with the course finishing up about 2pm to allow people to travel home. It is quite intensive and we try to pack a lot into the few days. However, please do bear in mind that there is no strict timetable and the weather dictates much of what we do and where we go. The number one priority is that you all enjoy yourselves and learn as much as you can from the experience.

Accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis. Each person will have their own room with use of the kitchen etc if they wish. Because of the early start there is a selection of cereals, tea and coffee to be had before heading out in the mornings and then on return there is a cooked breakfast ready with homemade breads and scones. There will always be snacks and plenty of home baking available during the day.
